The department strives to offer programs which are well aligned with the requirements of the stakeholders including the software industry for the integrated development of the society.

The Department of Software Engineering at El-Amin University offers a cutting-edge program designed to meet the growing demand for skilled software developers in Nigeria’s expanding tech industry. Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in core areas such as programming, software design, algorithms, and data structures. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical application, students develop the skills to design, develop, and maintain software systems that address real-world challenges in various sectors, including finance, education, and healthcare.

The Software Engineering programme department helps to prepare graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain quality software systems for various entities while meeting system requirements within time and budget constraints. The objectives of the Software Engineering program include providing students with a strong foundation in computing, practical skills in software development processes, expertise in programming languages, training in managing large software projects, and fostering high ethical standards for diverse career opportunities in the industry. Our program equips students with the technical and problem-solving skills needed to excel in careers as software engineers, developers, and tech entrepreneurs.

Description of Courses

The Software Engineering programme is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of software development processes, programming techniques, and system design, alongside the practical skills required to build, test, and maintain high-quality software systems. The first year focuses on foundational courses in computer science, mathematics, and programming, while subsequent years delve into advanced topics such as software architecture, algorithms, data structures, and project management, preparing students to tackle complex software challenges in their final year.

The Software Engineering programme aims to equip students with the technical expertise and problem-solving skills necessary to design, develop, and manage software applications for various industries, including technology, finance, healthcare, and telecommunications. The programme fosters innovation and teamwork, positioning graduates for roles in software development, systems analysis, IT consulting, or entrepreneurship in the tech industry.

Objectives of the Software Engineering degree programme include providing students with a solid foundation in programming, software design, and systems thinking, developing skills in coding, debugging, and testing software applications, cultivating the ability to manage software projects and collaborate in development teams, and nurturing transferable skills valuable in both technical and non-technical fields. The programme also prepares students for advanced studies in software engineering or related interdisciplinary fields and emphasizes the importance of ethical practices and user-centered design in software development. Unique features of the programme include fostering proficiency in modern programming languages and development frameworks, encouraging hands-on experience through internships and capstone projects, and equipping graduates with the critical knowledge and tools needed to thrive in the fast-evolving world of software engineering.

B.A Arabic
Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in Arabic, Islamic studies, Hausa, and two other Arts/Social Science subjects.
Two ‘A’ level credit passes in relevant subjects one of which should be Arabic in NCE or ND with at least a merit level.
UTME subjects are: Arabic, Islamic Studies, Hausa, and English subjects.
B.A. Islamic Studies
Five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in Arabic, Islamic studies, Hausa, and two other Arts/Social Science subjects.
(a)Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects. One of the advanced level subjects should be Islamic Studies. NCE or ND at merit level.
