Description of Courses

The Data Science programme is to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, computing, and information technology to extract knowledge from data. The objectives of the programme include equipping students with the skills to analyze complex real-life problems, play significant roles in data architecture, acquisition, analysis, and archiving, and uncover hidden information in various sectors.

The programme aims to train students to integrate data-driven IT solutions with business processes to meet the information needs of organizations effectively and efficiently. The rational and justification of the programme focus on addressing current challenges in Data Science, ensuring relevance to national needs, and preparing students to lead in the analytical world locally and internationally.

The Data Science and Analytics programme is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in data-driven decision-making, statistical analysis, and computational techniques for extracting insights from complex datasets. The first year introduces fundamental courses in mathematics, statistics, and programming, while subsequent years focus on advanced topics such as machine learning, data visualization, big data, and predictive analytics, preparing students to solve real-world problems through data analysis by their final year.

The Data Science and Analytics programme aims to equip students with the technical skills and analytical mindset necessary to collect, process, and interpret large datasets, enabling them to drive innovation in industries such as finance, healthcare, marketing, and technology. It prepares graduates for careers in data science, business intelligence, analytics consulting, and machine learning engineering, or for entrepreneurial roles in data-centric businesses.

Objectives of the Data Science and Analytics degree programme include providing students with a comprehensive understanding of data analysis techniques and tools, fostering problem-solving abilities through the application of statistical models and machine learning algorithms, developing practical skills in programming languages like Python and R, data management, and visualization, and cultivating transferable skills valuable in various industries. The programme also prepares students for advanced studies in specialized fields like artificial intelligence or data engineering and emphasizes the ethical considerations of data privacy and security. Unique aspects of the programme include fostering proficiency in handling big data technologies, encouraging hands-on experience through internships and capstone projects, and equipping graduates with the critical knowledge and tools needed to thrive in the fast-growing field of data science and analytics.
