The Department of Criminology and Security Studies at El-Amin University offers a specialized program aimed at addressing Nigeria’s unique security challenges through a comprehensive study of criminology, criminal justice, and security practices. Our curriculum covers core areas such as crime prevention, law enforcement, forensic science, and homeland security, equipping students with the knowledge needed to analyze and respond to security issues within Nigeria. Courses are designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on understanding criminal behavior, justice systems, and public safety.
Students gain practical experience through fieldwork, internships, and collaborations with local law enforcement agencies, security firms, and governmental organizations. This hands-on approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared to enter roles in security management, law enforcement, crime analysis, and public policy. By combining theoretical insights with practical applications, our program prepares students to address evolving security needs and contribute meaningfully to community safety and national security in Nigeria.
Criminology and Security Studies Programme integrates theories from various disciplines like sociology, anthropology, and psychology. It focuses on understanding law, crime perpetration, societal reactions to crime, and enhancing public safety. The programme aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable in enhancing the security of Nigeria, Africa, and the global community. It emphasizes problem-solving theories and research for preventing and controlling crime and insecurity. Prepares students for careers in academic research or security-related fields.
The objective of this Degree Programme is to equip students with theoretical and methodological knowledge in Criminology and Security Studies, train students to design and implement policies for crime prevention, provide comparative knowledge on global manifestations of crime and security amongst others.
Graduates of this program can pursue careers in government law enforcement, security agencies, or establish security-related businesses, gain opportunities in research, consultancy, teaching, or initiating not-for-profit organizations.
