The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at El-Amin University provides an in-depth education on the principles of diplomacy, global politics, and international organizations with a focus on Nigeria’s role within the global community. Our curriculum includes courses on foreign policy analysis, international law, conflict resolution, and regional studies, designed to cultivate a nuanced understanding of global dynamics from an African perspective. Through lectures, debates, and case studies, students develop analytical and communication skills essential for diplomacy and international relations.
Practical experience is central to our program, as students participate in simulations, internships, and international seminars, fostering firsthand knowledge of diplomatic practices. Collaborations with embassies, government agencies, and international organizations provide unique exposure to the field, preparing graduates for impactful roles in foreign services, international NGOs, policy think tanks, and global business. Our graduates are equipped to represent Nigeria effectively on the international stage, contribute to global peacebuilding, and advance Nigeria’s interests in an interconnected world.
The International Relations programme covers a wide range of theoretical and practical aspects of the international system, offering theories like power theory and realist theory to explain present and future global issues. Graduates can find employment opportunities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Organizations.
The philosophy of the B.Sc. International Relations Degree programme aims to produce competent and intellectually sound graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the political and socio-economic development of Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
The objectives of the International Relations degree programme include stimulating students’ appreciation of international relations theories, providing practical skills, fostering problem-solving abilities, and preparing students for further studies in the field. Unique features of the programme include teaching on regional socio-economic peculiarities, foreign policies of states, understanding state behaviors, and practical application of international relations theories.
Graduates of the programme would possess employability skills such as teaching, working in diplomatic roles, advising governmental bodies, collaborating with international organizations like the UN and African Union, and participating in election monitoring teams. The 21st-century skills emphasized by the programme include global awareness, creativity in understanding new international relations theories, critical thinking for analyzing political changes, interpersonal communication, digital literacy, teamwork, and media literacy for conceptualizing regional integration.
